Sweat gland treatment for men

Through sweating, we regulate our body temperature and stimulate our metabolism. Sweat production is greatest in areas such as under the armpits and on the palms of the hands. Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is unpleasant for many of those affected and represents a severe restriction in everyday life.

In most cases, hyperhidrosis represents an extreme psychological burden for the person affected, as it is perceived as extremely unpleasant. In addition, permanently damp skin can lead to the development of eczema, warts, or fungal infections. This represents a serious health problem.

Primary hyperhidrosis can be treated effectively with the help of individualized therapy. The most frequently used methods are local application with Botulinum Type A and the surgical procedure of sweat gland suction curettage in the armpit area.

A specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery has specialized in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery during their 6-year specialist training following medical school. Since the term “cosmetic surgeon” is not protected, any doctor can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon without having completed specialist training. Therefore, we recommend entrusting yourself to a specialist such as Dr. Eppstein.

Before the procedure

As a rule, there are several weeks between the consultation and the surgery appointment. By law, a minimum period of 48 hours is required between the consultation and the performance of an elective procedure.

Certain underlying medical conditions, as well as the use of anticoagulant medication, may lead to the decision to refrain from performing a cosmetic surgery procedure. Such details will be discussed in depth during the consultation.

In a preliminary consultation with Dr. Eppstein, everything you need to know before the operation will be explained to you. Two weeks before the surgery, you should not take any medications that affect blood clotting, such as ASS (Aspirin). Additionally, you should stop consuming cigarettes. Everything else is detailed on our ‘Before-After’ sheet, which you will receive after your consultation.

The procedure

In cases of excessive sweating, the armpits can be treated using sweat gland suction curettage or Botulinum Type A, while the palms of the hands and soles of the feet can also be treated using Botulinum Type A.

Hyperhidrosis refers to an excessive and uncontrollable production of sweat in certain regions of the body. This occurs independently of heat or cold, as well as the time of day or season.

During sweat gland suction curettage, the sweat glands are permanently removed using a surgical procedure. This method can only be used in the armpit area. When using Botulinum Type A, the sweat glands are inhibited for approximately 6 months; this procedure can also be used on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet.

Dr. Eppstein will discuss which procedure is most suitable for you during a detailed consultation.

After the procedure

You will receive an emergency number where you can reach Dr. Eppstein at any time. In the event of a complication, please do not hesitate to call.

Physical rest and a healthy diet are important factors that contribute to rapid wound healing. The same applies to abstaining from cigarettes and alcohol. Dr. Eppstein will discuss further individual measures with you during the consultation.

The pain is generally well tolerated. Dr. Eppstein will issue a prescription for pain medication depending on the type of procedure.

A visible result is usually achieved after 3 months. The final result is typically reached after 6 months. The scars generally reach their final appearance after approximately one year.

This may be possible under certain circumstances, but should be discussed individually with Dr. Eppstein.

Smoking can lead to a narrowing of the blood vessels, which worsens blood circulation and thus impairs healing. For a fast healing process, one should therefore refrain from the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes.
