Labiaplasty
The reduction of the inner labia is by no means motivated by cosmetic reasons alone for women. Apart from the psychological burden, health impairments such as pain when cycling or wearing tight jeans can also be a reason why more and more women decide to undergo this procedure. We use a special surgical technique which, in addition to the reduction of the inner labia, also has the treatment goal of concealing them within the outer labia. A relatively minor procedure in which the natural sensitivity is maintained even after the operation.

Will I already incur costs during a consultation?
Yes, as a consultation is a medical service that must be billed according to the Gebührenordnung für Ärzte (GOÄ), a one-time fee of €75 will be charged for the individual and very detailed consultation.
What costs are associated with this treatment and is financing available?

Is there a possibility of cost coverage by my health insurance?
The Eppstein Klinik is a purely private clinic. Cooperation with statutory health insurance companies is therefore not possible. Our treatments are self-pay services.
Can the treatment be performed directly at the EPPSTEIN-Klinik?
Yes, with our own operating room, all procedures and treatments can be performed on site.
Why does the EPPSTEIN-Klinik not show before-and-after pictures?
According to the Heilmittelwerbegesetz §11 (1), German doctors are not permitted to advertise surgical plastic-cosmetic procedures through comparative depictions of appearance before and after the procedure (before-and-after images).
I have a long journey – can my companion also stay overnight at the clinic?
Yes, the accompanying person can also stay overnight at the clinic.
Can several treatments be performed at one appointment?
In principle, multiple treatments can be performed during a single appointment. To what extent certain treatments can be combined must be discussed during a personal consultation.
What is the difference between a cosmetic surgeon and a specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery?
A specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery has specialized in plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgery during their 6-year specialist training following medical school. Since the term “cosmetic surgeon” is not protected, any doctor can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon without having completed specialist training. Therefore, we recommend entrusting yourself to a specialist such as Dr. Eppstein.

Dr. med. Before the procedure
What is the typical timeframe between the consultation and the surgery date?
As a rule, there are several weeks between the consultation and the surgery appointment. By law, a minimum period of 48 hours is required between the consultation and the performance of an elective procedure.
Under what circumstances can no intervention be performed?
Certain underlying medical conditions, as well as the use of anticoagulant medication, may lead to the decision to refrain from performing a cosmetic surgery procedure. Such details will be discussed in depth during the consultation.
How do I optimally prepare for surgery?
In a preliminary consultation with Dr. Eppstein, everything you need to know before the operation will be explained to you. Two weeks before the surgery, you should not take any medications that affect blood clotting, such as ASS (Aspirin). Additionally, you should stop consuming cigarettes. Everything else is detailed on our ‘Before-After’ sheet, which you will receive after your consultation.

As a rule, no scars are to be expected.

Depending on the findings, Dr. Eppstein uses either tangential excision or wedge excision for labiaplasty.

How do I behave if complications occur?
You will receive an emergency number where you can reach Dr. Eppstein at any time. In the event of a complication, please do not hesitate to call.
How can I ensure a good healing process?
Physical rest and a healthy diet are important factors that contribute to rapid wound healing. The same applies to abstaining from cigarettes and alcohol. Dr. Eppstein will discuss further individual measures with you during the consultation.
Should I expect any pain after the procedure?
The pain is generally well tolerated. Dr. Eppstein will issue a prescription for pain medication depending on the type of procedure.
How long do I have to wait until a final result of the treatment is visible?
A visible result is usually achieved after 3 months. The final result is typically reached after 6 months. The scars generally reach their final appearance after approximately one year.
Can follow-up treatments also be carried out at another doctor or hospital, as I have a long journey?
This may be possible under certain circumstances, but should be discussed individually with Dr. Eppstein.
Does the consumption of alcohol or cigarettes have a direct impact on the healing process?
Smoking can lead to a narrowing of the blood vessels, which worsens blood circulation and thus impairs healing. For a fast healing process, one should therefore refrain from the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes.
Following labia reduction, do I have to expect long-term restrictions on sitting activities (such as using the toilet, driving a car) or wearing tight clothing?
After a labiaplasty, you should not have any problems urinating. However, sitting for long periods on hard surfaces can be somewhat uncomfortable during the first week. After a healing process of approximately 6 weeks, you can resume all activities as usual.
After what period of time can I have sexual intercourse again?
Depending on the healing process, you should wait approximately 6 weeks before having sexual intercourse again.
